Sparrows Group has signed a five-year blanket order with Pemex Procurement International, Inc. acting on behalf of Pemex Exploracion y Produccion (PEP) to service 41 of its cranes situated on assets in four of the Mexican national oil company’s developments in the region.
As the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), the first cranes were delivered by Sparrows in the early 1990s to support production in the Kumaza (AS01-02), Abkatun (AS02-03), Litoral (AS02-04) de Tabasco and Cantarell (AS01-01) fields.
Mexico is currently the third largest oil producer in the Americas after the United States and Canada.
Sparrows will supply specialist technical personnel and has already commenced essential maintenance, inspection and upgrading work to ensure the cranes continue to operate safely and efficiently.
The work will be supported by a team of Sparrows’ experienced engineers who specialise in mechanical, hydraulic, structural, automation, control, electrical and integrity disciplines.
In addition, the firm will also supply all certified OEM components from its dedicated international parts department in Houston, Texas.
Sparrows Group chief executive officer, Stewart Mitchell, said: “Sparrows cranes have been safely and reliably supporting Pemex’s operations for more than 25 years in the region.
“The 41 cranes owned by Pemex have provided a high-quality service throughout this time, allowing the national oil and gas organisation to carry out essential lifting operations across four of its most productive field developments.
“Provision of genuine OEM parts with a certified warranty is integral to the ongoing maintenance and inspection programme and ensures safety and reliability of the cranes.
“We look forward to continuing this work and upgrading the cranes as required.”
