Sparrows Group strikes gold at prestigious awards

Sparrows Group is celebrating after winning the Apprentice Award at the prestigious 2017 Press and Journal Gold Awards.

Leanne Brown, apprentice hydraulic technician, was presented with the accolade at the black tie awards ceremony on Friday 8th September, hosted at the Marcliffe Hotel in Aberdeen.

Before joining Sparrows in 2014, Leanne previously received Best Engineering Pupil award while completing a NESCOL Skills for Work Engineering course at Ellon Academy and is now studying towards her HND in Engineering Practice.

Stewart Mitchell, chief executive officer at Sparrows Group, said: “Leanne has proved to be a valuable asset to the business since starting her apprenticeship in 2014 and we are thrilled to see her efforts recognised. It is fantastic to see an individual so passionate about their role and Leanne’s enthusiasm is infectious. We look forward to seeing her progress through Sparrows as she develops her career.”

Leanne commented: “I’m thrilled to have won this award and could not have done it without the support from my team Sparrows. My role is so diverse and it’s been a fantastic place to learn my trade.

“I hope by winning this award, it will show young girls that the engineering field isn’t as male dominated as it’s perceived. It’s a brilliant career choice and I am looking forward to exploring how I can progress my career with further study.”
