Meet the team – Richardson Goh Mui Boon

Richardson Goh Mui Boon is an experienced engineer, he has a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from the National University of Singapore and over 15 years in the field working on drilling equipment for major OEMs.

Tell us a bit about your role at Sparrows

I joined in June as a Drilling Equipment Engineer, which means that I'm responsible for drilling equipment inspection and overhaul projects in the Singapore API Q2 accredited workshop. I'm the focal point for clients technical and commercial enquiries, along with overseeing the projects team to ensure work is completed safely, within the promised timeline and complies with all OEM and API requirements.

What was your previous role?

I was a Field Service Representative for Cameron and NOV for over 15 years working in the field and OEM workshops carrying out overhauls on drilling equipment. It covered everything from platform installation and commissioning, to troubleshooting, repair, upgrades, inspection and preservation.

What types of equipment have you worked on?

My experience covers all types of drilling equipment, different rig types, locations and various clients.

I've worked on mud pumps, drawworks, rotary tables, travelling blocks, crown blocks and top drives, as well as other tools and accessories.

What has been your impression of working at Sparrows so far?

Everyone has been friendly, helpful and approachable. The workshop facilities are impressive and there's a wide range of technical capability for mechanical equipment with the opportunity to work on anything from marine gearboxes, hoists, drilling packages and equipment, and cranes.

What's been your career highlight to date?

When I was the mechanical lead (drilling package) for the installation and commissioning team for the four jack-ups in COSCO Dalian Shipyard, China.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I enjoy running and going to the gym.

Any final thoughts?

I'm looking forward to enhancing the Sparrows drilling equipment service line and working on a wide range of equipment, along with gaining new experieince from the engineering team.
