Challenge
BW Offshore engaged Altrad Sparrows to assist with the Hook Up and Commissioning (HUC) of the Catcher FPSO in the North Sea including:
- Pull in subsea risers and umbilicals
- Install Emergency Shutdown Valves (ESDVs) and seal cans
- Carry out flange management activities
- Skid turret to permanent position
- Reinstate process pipe spools
- Install permanent work platforms and grating
- Operation and maintenance of gantry cranes
- Manufacture, pressure test and flushing of small bore pipework and sample panels
- Meet all project targets and provide support to achieve first oil on deadline.
Solution
- Key personnel travelled to Singapore to survey the worksite and join the BW Offshore team for dry run of HUC activities
- Suite of lift plans generated for all lifts to take place during dry run and HUC
- Tailored flange management procedure generated for the scope
- Provision of equipment including - rigging equipment, tensions tools, torque tools, manual handling equipment, pressure/flushing Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU), hydraulic and mechanical hand and air tools, lighting and communications equipment
- Dedicated onshore focal point and rigging leads to provide consistent client contact points throughout the eight-month scope
- Provision of training services to coach BW Offshore stadd in use of monorail gantry cranes
- Created a Failure mode, effects and criticality analysis (FMECA), Planned Maintenance Routine (PMR) suite and recommended spares list for turret gantry crane to enable correct maintenance and minimise downtime
- A multi-disciplined ad-hoc squad was utilised including – rigging supervisors, rope access trained riggers, rope access trained bolting technicians, level 3 rope access supervisors, gantry crane operators, senior hydraulic technicians and piping / small bore tubing technicians, Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) inspectors.
